Dexter's Laboratory follows Dexter, a boy genius who operates a massive, high-tech secret lab hidden behind his bedroom bookshelf. While he attempts to orchestrate brilliant, futuristic science experiments away from his clueless parents, his chaotic, hyperactive older sister Dee Dee regularly breaks in to unintentionally smash his work and trigger sci-fi disasters. Alongside managing this intense sibling rivalry, Dexter must constantly outsmart Mandark, a fellow child prodigy and bitter rival who operates a competing lab and seeks to sabotage Dexter's genius at every turn.
